Summer's Gone

Dear Avril,

the weather is getting cooler and the leaves have started to change. you just asked me for the first time why the leaves do this in the fall... you've got quite an inquisitive mind.

this summer has been really great with pushes on the swing out front and after dinner bike rides, you are always wanting to race elise and i and be the first to the park!

Camping 2010

Dear Avril,

This year we went camping at Rock Point Provincial Park. There were a lot of us camping! (Auntie and Jerome, Carly and Chris, The Schells, Jeremy and Karyna, Justin, Greg and Kayla, Cole and Beth)

When we got to the campground the Schells were already there and Ethan and Mazlyn were ready to get playing. You guys went walking up to see your Auntie but kept on walking and suddenly nobody knew where the 3 of you were. I was a little panicked to say the least and started to search for you guys. I was calling your names out all over and was getting no answers. Suddenly, as I was walking down a long road you guys came running from around a corner! The first thing you said to me was "Mommy we were on an ADVENTURE and we got lost!" I was so happy to find you! You guys had gone pretty far.

You really enjoyed the whole weekend and happily went back and forth between campsites with your pals. You spent most of the day on Saturday down at the beach playing in the sand and swimming in the lake.

I am so happy that you like camping so much! It is something that we will be doing as a family for lots of summers to come!

Earthquake

Dear Avril,

Yesterday you experienced your first earthquake! You were sitting in the crook of my knee (you like to call it "the nest") on the couch in the living room and I had just closed my eyes for a few minutes when the couch started shaking around. I opened my eyes and asked you to stop moving around so much and you looked at me like I was crazy :) There had in fact been a 5.5 earthquake that had hit. You didn't really realize what was happening and neither did I until your dad told us about it.

Swimmin'

Dear Avril,

keeping up to you is getting very difficult! you have so much energy you almost shine.

You are getting quite good at swimming, this week you wanted to try swimming with a board like the big kids and didn't want my help. i was a little nervous to let you go, but you swam like a pro! so fast i almost couldn't keep up!

"Daddy, perhaps this afternoon we could go to Pearson Park"

We went to the Splash Pad and you had a blast running around in the sprinklers. I was just in the process of buying a popsicle when i heard you crying and saw you come running - you had fallen and hurt your hands. the tears quickly evaporated when you saw the giant popsicle! after you finished you got so cold that you couldn't even talk, just shiver and shake your head that you didn't want to go back into the water!

All I want...

Dear Avril,

what a whirlwind the last few months have been. welcoming your sister into the family has kept all of us so busy, it's been hard to find a moment to reflect!

We were a little concerned how you would react when we brought elise home, but you love the newest addition to our family so much, sometimes a little too much! 'Av, just leave her alone, she's being QUIET', trying to give her kisses and entertain her all the time by giving her 'stuffies', to 'make her more calm'.

Excitement is building for your birthday, but you're not too eager to say that you're 3 yet even though it's mere days away. When people ask how old you are, i usually say 'almost 3', but you always politely correct me 'but i'm still 2'.

Auntie suggested to you that you could go on a 'special trip' to the toy store for your birthday, which she thought you would be very excited about, but you got very upset and insisted that you 'just want a regular birthday with cake and good food for everyone to eat'! The cake you're insisting upon is a 'tree cake' - not sure where you got the idea; i thought you would forget about it, but you're insistent. a tree cake it is!
